The college offers various support services to our faculty and students who are committed to applying scientific knowledge to create practical solutions that benefit society.
Pre-Award Services
The College of Information Science & Technology Office of Proposal Development supports faculty members in securing funding for their research projects. Our team assists faculty in identifying suitable funding opportunities and preparing proposals that meet specific guidelines and requirements. We work in close collaboration with faculty members to create, review, and complete proposal documents for prioritized solicitations. Additionally, we coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs to help faculty members with externally funded initiatives. Our services include:
Find Funding Opportunities
- Meet with faculty/students to discuss research needs and interests
- Identify, analyze, and send out targeted funding opportunities
- Maintain a repository of successful proposals
Writing and Editing Support
- Create checklists of required documents for submission
- Create narrative outlines and document templates
- Draft budget justifications
- Create and maintain generic boilerplate documents, e.g., facilities and other equipment
- Review and edit narratives for clarity, organization, and compliance with sponsor guidelines
- Edit supporting documents (e.g., facilities documents) to ensure they comply with sponsor guidelines
- Develop figures and tables to enhance visual appeal and understanding of text
- Work with students applying for internal funding opportunities
Proposal Management
- Interpret proposal guidelines and requirements
- Work with proposers to set key strategic milestones for proposal development
- Assist with project management (e.g., personnel document collection and review)
- Assist with navigating administrative processes (e.g., NuRamp)
- Upload documents to electronic submission systems
- Review budgets/budget narratives for compliance with sponsor and university guidelines
- Coordinate external peer reviews of proposal drafts
- Assist with collaborative proposal development
Post-Award Services
The post-award team in the College of Information Science & Technology Business and Finance Office assists faculty with the daily management and administration of internal and external projects. We work with the faculty on monitoring expenditures to ensure that the terms and conditions of the award are being followed and that funds are being spent per the Uniform Guidance requirements (CFR 200). This ensures that all expenses are allowable, allocable and reasonable, and in accordance with UNO policies.
The post-award phase of research projects includes implementing awarded grants, monitoring expenses, and assisting with reporting and closeout. The College of IS&T Business and Finance provides the following services:
Award Set-Up
- Hire personnel
- Point of contact for faculty to ensure planned costs are allowable, allocable, and reasonable
- Purchasing for research related materials, equipment and services
- Project-related travel arrangements and reimbursement
Award Management
- Assistance with award and budget management
- Guidance regarding research expenditures
- Monitor compliance with terms of the award and UNO policies
- Build budget forecasting reports upon request
- Monthly budget reports
Award Closeout
- Assistance with no-cost extensions and re-budgets
- Assistance in verifying expenses
- Coordination with OSP on award closeout
