Senior Q&A

What are your ultimate career goals?

My current ultimate career goal is to be a portfolio manager in Germany. My plan of action is to study and obtain the CFA, get an MBA, and gain some experience in investment analysis before heading to Germany. I am experienced in the language and admire the culture in Germany and the surrounding countries. Beyond this, I may be interested in consulting work, real estate investment (industrial, office, vacation rentals) and business as mission work. An idea I have thought as exciting and fulfilling would be starting a business in a struggling region of the world for the purpose of helping others both economically and spiritually. This would be done by employment of the local population and servicing the community's needs.

What experiences have been most valuable to you in the Scholars Academy?

The experiences that have been the most valuable are those involving relationships with others. The experience of developing relationships with 19 other gifted thinkers and passionate people is of high value to me. College is often cited as a having nice value because of the relationships and opportunities found within it, and having a connected group for four years is a great way to capture that. Aside from the peer friendships, I have also built relationships with business leaders in the fields I am interested in through the mentoring provided. These relationships are of great use in developing ideas of career and making things happen. Altogether, the experience of meeting people and becoming friends has been the most valuable to me.

Why should a high school student consider applying to the Scholars Academy?

A high school student should consider applying because the opportunity cost in not applying is thousands of dollars, friendships, mentoring, cutting edge education, business visits, and business credibility. All these things are more difficult to obtain when not in the scholars academy. For the minutes spent on the application, the trajectory of your life is bent toward excellence far too much to consider being lazy and not applying. Or you can just do nothing, and let others rise to greatness. Your choice!
