The University of Nebraska and US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) are proud to announce the creation of the inaugural USSTRATCOM Leader Fellowship Program, a new program under the University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), a long-term partnership established between the University of Nebraska and USSTRATCOM housed in the system’s National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI), which will begin this March at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).

The USSTRATCOM Leader Fellowship Program brings together some of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) top civilian employees with University of Nebraska’s world‐class national security and defense experts.

A kickoff event for the new program took place on Saturday, March 1, at Mammel Hall on UNO’s Pacific Campus. The kickoff featured a keynote from the new USSTRATCOM Commander Admiral Cecil D. Haney, NSRI Executive Director Lieutenant General (Retired) Robert Hinson, and UNO College of Business Administration Dean Louis Pol.

The USSTRATCOM Leader Fellowship Program is the first of its kind for civilian leaders at the University of Nebraska. The program features 15 weeks of classroom-based and hands-on learning opportunities that will provide graduate level leadership development.

The USSTRATCOM personnel competitively selected for this opportunity are experienced management and program analysts from across the Command Directorates. These employees were chosen because of their demonstrated leadership skills, effective contributions to the command missions and potential for increased responsibilities at USSTRATCOM and the DoD.

A cornerstone objective of this program is to provide a high level professional education opportunity through the rigorous interaction between the USSTRATCOM Fellows, academic professionals at the University of Nebraska Omaha, University of Nebraska Medical Center, University of Nebraska‐Lincoln, senior military leaders at USSTRATCOM and private business leaders in Nebraska.

Program fellows will be housed full time at the home of UNO’s College of Business Administration, Mammel Hall, inside the building’s new state-of-the-art Strategic Leadership Laboratory – part of the Center for Collaboration Science.

The Fellows will engage in a series of enrichment activities, rigorous academic engagement, and applied capstone projects that should foster a sense of community and shared understanding of how various functions operate synergistically across Directorates’ missions. This program will foster leadership problem solving competencies such as team building, collaboration management, data‐driven decision making, and project management combined with mission core competency development throughout the duration of the program.
