Janelle is the Director of the Aging Brain and Emotion Lab (ABE Lab) at UNO. Her lab investigates the brain basis of social cognition in healthy aging, Alzheimer's disease, and patients with brain injury. In particular, she is interested in how brain changes with age affect our ability to empathize with others. In addition, her research focuses on understanding the impact of caregiving on emotional well-being, hormones, and the brain. She uses cognitive neuroscience methods including behavioral assessments, neuropsychological testing, neuroimaging, and hormonal assessments.
