Biography

Janelle Beadle received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame. She then completed a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Iowa. Following her Ph.D., she completed postdoctoral fellowships at Brandeis University and the University of Iowa.

Teaching Interests

Biology of aging, Alzheimer's disease, cognitive neuroscience of aging, social neuroscience, caregiving, age-related changes to the brain that affect emotion

Research Interests

*Janelle is currently taking graduate students. Her primary appointment is in the Department of Gerontology, but she also mentors students from the Department of Psychology Graduate Program at UNO.

Janelle is the Director of the Aging Brain and Emotion Lab (ABE Lab) at UNO. Her lab investigates the brain basis of social cognition in healthy aging, Alzheimer's disease, and patients with brain injury. In particular, she is interested in how brain changes with age affect our ability to empathize with others. In addition, her research focuses on understanding the impact of caregiving on emotional well-being, hormones, and the brain. She uses cognitive neuroscience methods including behavioral assessments, neuropsychological testing, neuroimaging, and hormonal assessments.
