Big Picture

Salvation Army Back to School Backpack Program
The Staff Advisory Council of UNO is working with Creighton, College of St. Mary, UNMC and UNMC College of Nursing, Bellevue University and the Salvation Army to provide children in need with school supplies.  UNO is collecting rulers now through May 24, 2013.  Rulers can be purchased at the Bookstore at a price of 3 for $1.00.  Our goal is to collect 2,000 rulers.

Since its inception in 1998, the Back-to-School Backpack Program has provided over 109,000 children with the supplies they need for school.  Without those supplies, many of those students would have found their quality of education  greatly challenged.  Without those supplies, some of those children might have dropped out of school altogether.  We hope that this program will help prevent children from being discouraged with or from walking away from education all together.  While this program has helped over 109,00 children already, the need continues to grow.

Please consider helping with this worthy cause.  We KNOW the value of a good education.  Let us help make certain that these children will have the opportunity to get that education they deserve.

So take advantage of the nice weather and walk over to the Bookstore and buy some rulers.  The rulers can be donated right at the checkout stand in the Bookstore.  Your purchase is tax deductible.

If you have any questions, please contact your SAC representative or Kim Kronschnabel at X4-3497

Staff Advisory Council Elections

The Staff Advisory Council Elections are held each year in April. Announcements for SAC nominations will be made in March on this site and through enotes. At that time, the Staff Advisory Council will be looking for volunteers to serve in vacant areas where the three year term limit has expired. The elected position is for a three year commitment, with the expectation of attending monthly meetings and serving on various subcommittees. SAC is a working council that meets at least once a month, usually the second Tuesday of the month at 9:00 a.m.

Chancellor Christensen encourages the support of supervisors in allowing their employees the time of to participate in this important mission.
