Biography

Dr. Tyler White is an Associate Professor of Practice and the Director of the National Security Program at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Dr. White is the faculty lead for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) Center for Academic Excellence (IC CAE) at UNL. After graduating with his PhD in political science from UNL in 2010, he has focused his research interests on national security topics including intelligence studies, US nuclear policy, US foreign policy and deterrence. Dr. White has also focused heavily on curriculum development, creating the national security (NSST) minor as well as the core introduction and capstone courses for the minor.

Dr. White has also organized numerous academic conference both on and off campus and continues to work external partners in the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. Dr. White has won several high-profile teaching awards both at UNL and internationally including being named the 2018 International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE) Instructor of the year. In 2013 Dr. White co-authored a volume on human security entitled "State Responses to Human Security: at Home and Abroad" with Courtney Hillebrecht and Patrice C. McMahon, and has published additional journal articles on educational practices, deterrence, and environmental impacts of nuclear release. All you really need to know about Dr. White is that he loves to dive with sharks, rays, dolphins, and all the other fun ocean creatures.
