Peer Success Mentors

We strive to make sure that every student who comes to UNO has all the resources and support they need to succeed.

Our Mission

The mission of Peer Success Mentors (PSMs) is to help new undergraduate students, who are not already paired with a learning community or other student support group, as they transition to campus.

The PSM program is a joint effort between the Division of Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success and the Division of Innovative and Learning-Centric Initiatives.

New to UNO? We can help make it a little easier!

PSMs proactively reach out to new undergraduate students who are not a part of a learning community or other student support group during their first year at UNO. This outreach begins around the first week of classes.

We support new students by:

  • Answering student questions
  • Bringing awareness to available campus resources
  • Assisting students with connecting to resources when applicable
  • Connecting with students about registration for future semesters

During the semester, PSMs are available to meet with students in-person, over the phone, or on Zoom.

If you have any questions about the program or need assistance connecting with a PSM, please contact Eric Wolford, Director of Strategic Retention Programs.

About Our Peer Success Mentors

All of our Peer Success Mentors are currently enrolled students here at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) who have completed the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Certified Peer Educator (CPE) program.

The CPE program, along with additional training provided here at UNO, equips our Mentors with important interpersonal skills to aid them in interacting with their fellow students. They are well-versed in skills such as effective listening, managing and responding to crises and recognizing the uniqueness of each individual and their situation.
