As part of a statewide effort to enhance professional development for law enforcement personnel funded by a public safety grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation, UNO's Nebraska Center for Justice Research and School of Criminology and Criminal Justice coordinated the delivery of law enforcement training across Nebraska. Faculty, staff, and graduate students collaborated with RENZ Consulting, LLC, in this initiative. The training centered on three interconnected topics designed to reflect the daily realities and responsibilities of officers across Nebraska: (1) understanding trauma and its impact on individuals and communities, (2) promoting officer wellness and resilience through practices that support physical, mental, and emotional health, and (3) recognizing and addressing implicit bias to foster equitable and respectful interactions with fragile communities. This trauma-informed training report includes the corresponding training evaluation findings, including recommendations for additional training topics for Nebraska law enforcement.
