Biography

Rose Rydberg is a passionate conductor, educator, and violinist with deep roots in Omaha’s music community. A proud alumna of both McMillan Middle School and Omaha North High School, Rose has returned to both to serve as orchestra director at McMillan since 2008 and North since 2015.

She earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Master of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she studied with Ruth Meints and Judy Divis. In recognition of her dedication to students and excellence in teaching, Rose received the Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award in 2018.

An active member of the American String Teachers Association, Nebraska Music Educators Association, and National Association for Music Education, Rose is deeply involved in ensuring that quality music education is available to all students. She has held leadership roles that include Music Department Head, Professional Learning Communities Lead, and often mentors early-career educators through the Take Flight Program. As a clinician, she has presented at the Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference and served as a guest conductor for the Council Bluffs All-City Music Festival and the Omaha Public Schools All-City Music Festival. Additionally, she has served as a clinician and judge for solo and ensemble contests for both ASTA and NMTA.

Her involvement with the Omaha Area Youth Orchestras spans decades—first as a student in Elementary Strings, Honors Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic, and Youth Symphony. Later, as a conductor and coach, she has served as the Elementary Strings Conductor in 2009, Honors Orchestra Conductor in 2017, sectional and chamber music coach, and was appointed Youth Concert Strings Conductor in 2025.

Outside the classroom, Rose performs regularly with the Metropolitan String Quartet and has contributed her talents to Orchestra Omaha, Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, UNO Chamber Orchestra, The Rose Theater, PART, and performances with Billy McGuigan. She has also maintained a private studio, teaching violin and viola students of all levels.

Rose is grateful to be an integral piece of the vibrant musical landscape of Omaha and loves sharing her musical journey with her husband, Daniel, and their two children, Alex and Elowyn.
