OAYO Audition Requirements

Youth Symphony (YS)

All musicians will need to prepare scales, and a solo of your choice,

  • Choose ONE (1) major scale and ONE (1) minor scale that shows your current ability level on the range of your instrument.
  • 2 minute solo of your choice that shows your current ability level.
  • Wind and brass players may be asked to prepare a short excerpt following their initial audition. You will be contacted directly if this applies to you.
​​Percussionists:
  1. Prepare two short solo pieces (1-2) min each on two different percussion instruments of your choice

  2. Prepare one major and one minor scale on a mallet instrument of your choice.

  3. Play an A on the instrument and then sing the same pitch. The singing doesn’t have to sound nice, it just should be the same pitch.


Youth Philharmonic (YP)

All musicians will need to prepare scales and a solo of your choice.

  • Choose ONE (1) major scale and ONE (1) minor scale that shows your current ability level on the range of your instrument.

  • 2 minute solo of your choice that shows your current ability level.

  • Percussionists: see the above Youth Symphony requirements.

  • Wind and brass players may be asked to prepare a short excerpt following their initial audition. You will be contacted directly if this applies to you.


Youth Concert Strings (YCS)

  • TWO (2) major scales of choice (one octave is fine) your current ability level on your instrument

  • 1-2 minute solo of your choice that shows your current ability level.


Chamber Music Ensembles (CME)

Chamber music does not require a separate audition. Please indicate in your audition registration if you are interested in participating in the chamber music program
