The Kinesiology program is designed to prepare students to assume positions as fitness or health promotion directors and exercise consultants in private or public agencies, health centers, cardiac rehabilitation programs, as well as corporate fitness programs.

This program is also well-suited as a pre-professional program for students interested in further pursuing a career in:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physician Assistant
  • Nursing
  • Chiropractic or other fields

Additionally, the kinesiology program will prepare students for research-intensive exercise science graduate programs in exercise physiology, biomechanics, physical activity, and others.

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology

Major: Kinesiology

This degree is appropriate for students in pre-professional programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and medicine.

Based on the goals and objectives of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Practical Experience

Kinesiology students receive several opportunities for practical fieldwork experiences. Whether in the various on-campus laboratories and class work (lab methods, practicum) or the off-campus internships, students are encouraged and supported to gain initial exposure to practical settings, allowing them to apply skills and knowledge gained in coursework in a supervised situation/setting.

Practical experiences include fitness evaluation, writing exercise prescriptions, supervision of exercise programs for various populations, working closely with faculty on research projects, administration of wellness and health promotion activities and programs, fitness leadership, etc.

Internships consist of a minimum of 300 hours completed in one semester at a corporate, commercial, hospital, or agency organization selected by the student in consultation with the internship coordinator.

Requirements

Students must have a cumulative and major GPA of at least 2.5, no grade lower than "C-" in required courses, and no incomplete in required courses to do an internship and be recommended for graduation.
