Vascular Fitness Assessment

As we age, our bodies become more susceptible to cardiovascular diseases, and we should routinely examine our cardiovascular health, such as blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and endothelial function to prevent/reduce cardiovascular diseases.

The UNO Vascular Research Lab offers a vascular fitness assessment package to monitor cardiovascular health.

Vascular Fitness Assessment* | $80

The testing package includes measurements of blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and endothelial function:

  • Blood pressure: high blood pressure, specifically hypertension, is strongly associated with increased risks for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases
  • Arterial stiffness: arterial stiffness is the hardening of the arteries, and stiffening of the arteries is thought to be connected to stroke, coronary heart disease, and cardiovascular diseases
  • Endothelial function: the endothelium is the single-cell lining on the inside of your blood vessels, and endothelial dysfunction is strongly associated with cardiovascular diseases

Previous studies by the UNO Vascular and Metabolic Phenotyping Research Lab have shown that regular exercise, both aerobic and resistance training, has beneficial effects on these measurements of vascular fitness.

Implementing a regular exercise program will be beneficial for you to improve your vascular fitness and help prevent/reduce risks for cardiovascular diseases. However, prior to initiating your exercise program, you should evaluate your cardiovascular health/fitness to design an optimal training program.

By getting your vascular fitness assessed, you may be able to implement or adjust your regular exercise program to help prevent/reduce your risks for cardiovascular diseases.
