As a graduate student, honing your communication competencies is essential for thriving in both the academy and industry, and developing these skills often requires assistance beyond your coursework. The UNO Speech Center offers personalized support to help you master essential communication skills. Please find information about our Undergraduate Student Support here. Scheduling an Appointment

To Make an Appointment, please find us through MAVConnect. We are free to meet in person and over Zoom. IMPORTANT: If you cannot find a time that works for you, please email one of the Speech Center Directors. As we expand our graduate student staff, we will open more hours through MavCONNECT. Until then, we will schedule these appointments directly.

Graduate Student Services

Schedule one-on-one appointments—available in-person or virtually—to rehearse and receive expert guidance on:

Presentation Practice & Feedback 

Focusing on long-form communication skills, learn how to structure and deliver complex content with particular attention to:

  • Thesis and dissertation defenses
  • Conference presentations
  • Class lectures and guest speaking engagements
  • Job and internship interview strategies

We can also tailor our appointment for public speaking and delivery coaching, including:

  • Voice modulation and body language
  • Audience engagement strategies
  • Reducing speech anxiety

Collaborative Communication 

The UNO Speech Center can assist graduate student groups with teamwork strategies, effective communication protocols, and conflict resolution during group projects.

Graduate Assistant Support 

Graduate Assistants (GAs) can receive help developing and delivering lectures, creating outlines, and enhancing classroom presence. For a full list of our classroom support, please see the Faculty & Staff Support page.

Graduate Student Workshops 

Interested in a custom communication workshop for your program or cohort? The Speech Center is open to organizing graduate-specific workshops to meet emerging student needs. If you are interested in having us develop a workshop, please email the UNO Speech Center at unospeechcenter@unomaha.edu.
