In the 10 years since the Schwalb Center has been at UNO, there have been so many opportunities for students and faculty to immerse themselves in the world of Israel and Jewish studies. Below is an archive of some of the Schwalb Center's most memorable events.

Moshe Gershovich Memorial Symposium

Dr. Moshe Gershovich

Join the UNO Schwalb Center as it honors the memory of the late Dr. Moshe Gershovich (1959 - 2017), who was a specialist on North Africa and the Middle East, with this symposium and publication workshop.

We are pleased to host scholars from around the world who will present papers on North Africa and the Middle East. All events are held at the UNO Community Engagement Center and are free and open to the public.

Dr. Moshe Gershovich was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He went to school at Shimon Ben Zvi School in Givatayim, Israel and received his B.A. and M.A. from Tel Aviv University, and Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Before coming to Omaha, Moshe taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Al-Akhawayn University in Morocco. He also served in the IDF in the educational area for five years.

Moshe started at UNO in 2001. While at UNO he served as a professor of history and Director of the Schwalb Center for Israel and Jewish Studies.

He was well-loved by colleagues and students and was known for his vast amount of knowledge of Morocco and the Middle East.
