All awards listed here are presented during the Student Honors Convocation. Additional awards are presented during individual departmental and college celebrations. Please consult with the departments/schools and colleges on the procedures for additional awards. Student award recipients must be enrolled in the current Academic Year.

Dean's Award
The Dean's Award is presented to an outstanding undergraduate student in each college offering undergraduate degree programs at UNO. The Dean's Award is based on a combination of outstanding scholastic achievement and demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community. The recipient is selected by the Dean from among the Undergraduate Major Honorees.
Helen Hansen Outstanding Graduate Student Award
This award is presented annually to two graduate students during the Student Honors Convocation. At the time of nomination, the graduate recipients must have completed at least 18 hours of graduate work with a GPA of 3.75 or higher, demonstrated academic excellence, and have no outstanding incomplete grades ("IP" grades on thesis/dissertation are allowed).
Nominations may be submitted by faculty members, students, or administrators. The nominators should be working with graduate students and be able to assess their performance in academic and professional roles. Both part-time and full-time graduate students are eligible; nominees may not have graduated prior to the spring semester in which the award is presented.

All nominations should be submitted to the student's Graduate Program Committee who will select qualified nominees and documentation to the Graduate Scholarship/Fellowship Committee via the Office of Graduate Studies.
Outstanding Student Athlete Award
The Outstanding Student Athlete Award is presented to one male and one female student athlete. Honorees are also selected on the basis of academic and athletic achievement, in addition to their contributions to the university and the community.

Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence
Selection of the recipient is based on a combination of outstanding scholastic achievement, and demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community. The recipient is selected from the Dean's Award recipients.
Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Student Leadership
This award recognizes an undergraduate student who has demonstrated exemplary leadership through influential participation in campus organizations and community volunteer work, in addition to scholarly achievement.

Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service Learning
This award recognizes a student enrolled in either undergraduate or graduate service learning courses who demonstrates a thorough understanding of reflective practice techniques in coursework, provides service for a community agency in an outstanding manner, establishes and maintains an excellent relationship with the community agency, and embraces the philosophy of service learning and community service.

Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research or Creative Activity
Selection of the recipient is based on a combination of outstanding research or creative activity as demonstrated through scholastic endeavors and achievements. The recipient is selected from the Dean's Award recipients.
Undergraduate Major Honorees
Honorees are selected on the basis of academic achievement, as well as their contributions to the university and the community. Honorees are required to have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and to be in good academic standing. Back to top

Honoring outstanding academic achievement, students may elect membership in the nation's most-selective, all-disciplinary honor society, Phi Kappa Phi.
