Colleagues,
I am pleased to share with you the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s 2026-2029 Strategic Enrollment Plan. This plan establishes a comprehensive and data-informed framework that will guide our recruitment, retention, and student success efforts over the next three years. The extension of this planning horizon from one to three years recognizes that meaningful, transformative change requires sustained focus and coordinated institutional commitment. This plan positions us to engage with larger-scale initiatives capable of delivering significant and enduring impact.
The development of this plan has been a collaborative effort. I extend my sincere appreciation to the many faculty, staff, and campus leaders who contributed their time, insight, and expertise. I especially want to acknowledge Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Phil He, for his partnership throughout this process. Just like the formulation of this plan, enrollment and recruitment themselves are institutional-wide and collaborative efforts. For our efforts to be successful, each of us has a role to play.
The strategies outlined herein are grounded in an analysis of student preferences, demographic trends, market conditions, and the evolving realities of the higher education landscape. This evidence base enables us to identify the student populations we are best positioned to serve, strengthen our recruitment pipelines, enhance transfer and adult-learner pathways, and prioritize areas where campus resources must remain aligned with student demand. The plan focuses our recruitment efforts for maximum impact, enhances the partnership between enrollment management and the academic colleges, and delineates structural initiatives that will influence enrollment and retention in substantive ways.
We must also be cognizant that we undertake this work during a period of considerable uncertainty. The local and national higher education environment continues to shift rapidly. Accordingly, while this plan provides a clear strategic framework, the Division of Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success will continue to work closely with the university community to ensure ongoing responsiveness, data-driven adaptation, and refinement of our course of action as conditions evolve.
I am grateful for our continued, shared commitment to our students and to the future of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Together, we are well positioned to advance the goals set forth in this plan and to strengthen the long-term vitality of the university.
Go Mavs,
Jason P. Browning, Ph.D., MBA
Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success
