Neuromechanics is an area of research that studies how the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system interact to plan and perform body movements.

Every voluntary move we make is planned out by the brain, which sends signals through our nervous systems to trigger muscles to execute different tasks. The pathways from areas of the brain to the muscles is very complex and crucial for healthy movement.

Areas of Neuromechanics

Topics including motor control, motor learning, and motor development all fall within neuromechanics. Neuromechanics research can help to better understand how the brain plans and executes movements across a wide range of tasks and what changes occur with neurological disorders like Parkinson’s Disease and Stroke.

Research in this area focuses both on trying to better understand the neuromuscular diseases while also developing therapies to address movement impairments.
