Martina Saltamacchia is an expert on Medieval and Renaissance studies, merchants and cathedrals, and the Crusades.
Biography
Martina Saltamacchia, Ph.D., is a professor in UNO’s Department of History and the Director of the Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Saltamacchia teaches courses on Medieval Europe, medieval merchants, the Crusades, castles and cathedrals, and world civilizations.
Saltamacchia specializes in Medieval Italian history, with a current focus on Marco Carelli, a Milanese merchant who kickstarted the construction of Milan’s great new cathedral. Saltamacchia has been awarded numerous grants for her work, including two Andrew W. Mellon Foundation summer research grants and a National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowship, among others.
