Follow these steps to join us in ILUNO!

step-1.png blank-filler.png

Apply to ILUNO

  • Check out the ILUNO Admissions Checklist for more details on how to apply
  • After you apply and submit all your required documents, allow our admissions team 7-10 business days to process your information
  • Once everything is set, the admissions team will issue you a Form I-20 and admit letter
step-2.png

Commit to Attend

  • Fill out this form (ILUNO Intent to Commit) to let us know your intention of coming to ILUNO and other details.
  • Knowing that you are planning to come to ILUNO helps us make important preparations prior to your arrival. Let us know your intention.
step-3.png

Pay SEVIS Fee

  • After you are admitted and have your Form I-20, go to the SEVIS & Immigration website to learn about the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and pay the SEVIS fee to the U.S. government.
  • This is required before you go for a visa appointment
step-4.png

Obtain a Visa

  • As soon as you pay the SEVIS fee, schedule a visa appointment with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel.html
  • Check with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate about specific requirements for obtaining your visa
  • F and J students must print their I-901 SEVIS Fee payment receipt and present it as proof of payment at their visa interview and when entering the United States at a U.S. port of entry.
  • You may not use an email notice as proof of payment
step-5.png

Request Housing

  • After being admitted, review the International Student Housing Options
  • Submit the ILUNO Housing and Arrival Information Form at least 30 days prior to your program start date
  • If you will live on-campus in the UNO Residence Halls, complete the UNO Housing Application
step-6.png

Placement Testing

  • Once you get your visa, schedule a speaking test with ILUNO staff
  • You may only schedule your speaking test after you have your visa
  • Placement tests need to be completed within 6 months of your starting ILUNO session.
  • Email our coordinator at unoiluno@unomaha.edu for more details.
step-7.png

Arrive in Omaha (OMA Airport)

  • All new ILUNO students must arrive no later than the "Arrive by Date" on the Costs and Dates page
  • We will provide airport pick-ups on the day before orientation only. To request an airport pick-up, email the international advising staff at unointladvising@unomaha.edu
  • Report to the international advising office upon arrival in Omaha
step-8.png

Check In

  • Completing the Check-In and New Student Compliance e-forms in iGlobal: iglobal.nebraska.edu.
  • This is where you will upload a copy of your I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa, and I-94 for International Advising to review before activating your SEVIS record.
  • Update your local/current address in MavLINK
step-9.png

Attend Orientation

  • Orientation begins either the Thursday or Friday before the session starts. Look at the Costs and Dates page for exact dates.
  • Bring all of your immigration documents (passport, visa, I-20, I-94, immunization records)
  • Orientation is from Thursday to Monday of the start of the session
  • Sample Orientation Schedule
step 10

Begin Classes & Pay Your Bill

  • ILUNO classes always begin on the Tuesday of the first week of the session
  • For new students, your ILUNO bill - including tuition and university fees - is due the Friday of the first week of the session.

Important Info

  • ILUNO students on F and J visas pay for UNO-required health insurance each session. Since health insurance coverage starts on the first day of orientation, students should purchase their own medical insurance to cover travel and dates before orientation begins.
  • Students transferring from another school in the United States should do the e-form requesting a transfer I-20. These should be done before or within the first two weeks of classes.
  • Students with disabilities may request accommodations to ensure equal access to courses, programs, and activities. Please contact UNO's Accessibility Services Center

We look forward to welcoming you to UNO and Omaha!
