What International Students Need to Know about the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)

After international students receive their Form I-20 or DS-2019 from UNO, they must file Form I-901 with the U.S. Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) ahead of applying for a visa.

SEVIS is a database managed by the U.S. federal government that stores current information on all:

  • Non-immigrant students (F-1 and M-1 Visas)
  • Exchange visitors (J-1 Visa) and their dependents (F-2, M-2, and J-2 Visas)

International students who intend to apply for the above-listed visas must fill out and send the SEVIS Form I-901 and pay the associated fee.
