Susan T. Buffett Support of Thompson Scholars
The Susan T. Buffett Foundation provides scholarships to first-time first-year students entering a Nebraska public university or college. Award recipients will have graduated from a Nebraska high school, earned at least a 2.5 GPA in high school, and have financial need.
Students who receive the Susan T. Buffett scholarships will be called "William H. Thompson Scholars" in honor of the father of Susan Thompson Buffett. William H. Thompson served as Professor of Psychology, and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Omaha University, which later became the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Beginning in 2008, the Susan T. Buffett Foundation and the University of Nebraska collaborated to establish learning communities for the William H. Thompson Scholars. At the University of Nebraska, all students who receive the Susan T. Buffett scholarship will participate in a learning community designed to promote their academic success. At UNO the learning community is known as Thompson Learning Community or TLC, and students are known as Thompson Scholars.
