Automated Course Evaluation (ACE) Frequently Asked Questions for Students

  1. Where do I go to complete my evaluations?
  2. What should I do if I am having problems with my course evaluations or Canvas?
  3. Does it really matter if I complete these evaluations?
  4. Will my instructor know if I completed the evaluation?
  5. How does ACE ensure students’ confidentiality?
  6. If the instructor does not know whether I complete an evaluation, how am I able to receive reminders?
  7. I am in a course with more than one instructor. Do I have to complete an entire evaluation form for every instructor?
  8. I completed my evaluations. Why am I still receiving reminders?
  9. Will students have access to the summary evaluation results for courses?

1. Where do I go to complete my evaluations?

Students will have two ways to access the evaluation:

  • A direct link within a message sent to their UNO email. If students do not complete the evaluation right away reminder messages will be sent. Emails stop as soon as the evaluation is completed. And;
  • Canvas in the Course Evaluation section under Account.

2. What should I do if I am having problems with my course evaluations or Canvas?

Please contact the Systems Intelligence and Data Analytics at unoevalhelp@unomaha.edu or 402.554.4008. They are open during normal university business hours.

3. Does it really matter if I complete these evaluations?

Yes! Your feedback is vital to the success of UNO. Results of evaluations are used by faculty to make changes in both the content and delivery of the course. University administrators use the evaluation results to make personnel decisions (e.g., as part of the annual performance appraisal and faculty promotion/tenure process). Every student is expected to provide feedback for every course enrolled.

4. Will my instructor know if I completed the evaluation?

While instructors can track the overall response rate for a class, they cannot tell whether a specific student responded.

5. How does ACE ensure students’ confidentiality?

No faculty, staff, or administrators can identify which students completed evaluations or any content from a particular student’s evaluation. After final grades have been submitted, faculty receive reports which summarize results for the questions and list the specific comments collected for a course.

6. If the instructor does not know whether I complete an evaluation, how am I able to receive reminders?

Even an “automated” system must be managed to operate properly. Except for a few technical support staff who work in the Eppley Administrative Building, no one else at UNO has access to ACE. These UNO staff program the ACE system to notice which students have incomplete evaluations and send reminder emails.

7. I am in a course with more than one instructor. Do I have to complete an entire evaluation form for every instructor?

The evaluation forms have course-specific questions and instructor-specific questions. Students answer the course-specific questions once. Students receive the instructor-specific questions for each instructor (instructor names will be included in the question).

8. I completed my evaluations. Why am I still receiving reminders?

Reminders are sent to students with any incomplete evaluations. It’s possible that you “completed” an evaluation, but did not submit it. Please log into Canvas and confirm that you have submitted all of your evaluations.

9. Will students have access to the summary evaluation results for courses?

Students will not have access to summary data collected for a specific course or instructor. As the new process is further implemented, UNO administration along with Faculty Senate and Student Government will consider ways to provide students with more robust information concerning courses and evaluations, while respecting rights of individual faculty.
