Career Spotlight- Dakota with the Disney College Program
How did you hear about the Disney College Program?
I heard about this program through my parents and by visiting Disney’s website. Disney means so much to my family, as it is part of many memories for my family. My parents have always wanted me to be able to work for a company as amazing and well-known as Disney.
Why did you pursue this internship?
Disney is a household name and well-known all over the world. I knew working for such a company would look good on my résumé. After college, I am interested in working for Disney, so working as an intern first was a good way to get my foot in the door.
What was this internship like?
My experiences with the Disney College program have been amazing! I have been an intern with the program for two summers. During my internships, I was a fry cook, cashier, guest service, slide operator, life guard, and a trainer. I was able to meet people from all over the world and I still keep in contact with them. This was also the most professional job that I have ever held.
What was your most memorable experience with the Disney College Program?
My favorite memory from working at Disney was when my manager asked me to be a trainer for new cast members at our location; this was amazing because no other college program participant was offered this role. I also enjoyed having this perfect work/social life. I went to work in the parks, and then, once I was finished for the day, I would go back to the park with my friends. Working at a place as amazing and magical as Disney was truly a surreal experience.
Do you recommend this program to other students?
Do the program! It’s all about networking and getting your foot in the working door, so when you are finished with school, you can have a strong chance at securing a good job with the Walt Disney Company on your résumé.
