How long will the ceremony be?We estimate each ceremony will be under an hour and a half.
What if I don’t feel comfortable coming to the ceremony in-person?
Students are not required to participate in the ceremony if they don’t feel comfortable. All ceremonies will be streamed so you are able to watch and see your fellow graduates walk across the stage. Slides will be made for all graduates that will appear on their graduation celebration website.
Can I participate in the May 2021 Commencement ceremony if I am a 2020 graduate?
Because of the need to maintain social distancing during the continuing pandemic, these events will be limited to May 2021 graduates and their guests.
What if COVID-19 numbers increase?
UNO has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation both locally and nationally. If at any point between now and the scheduled ceremonies COVID-19 trends present an increased risk for safety, we will modify our planning and update our graduates and campus community.
We remain committed to the health and safety of the campus and Omaha communities as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
How many guests can I bring? Do they need tickets? How do I get tickets?
Graduates will need to get tickets for their family and friends to attend the ceremony in-person. The tickets issued will all be seated in pods (seated together). More details about tickets will be coming soon! Ceremonies will also be live-streamed.
Will masks be required?
Yes, masks will be required for anyone in Baxter Arena.
How will Baxter Arena be disinfected between ceremonies?
All seats are fogged with disinfectant after each ceremony. Other surfaces, bathrooms, trash cans, and other common areas will be disinfected by Baxter Arena staff during and following each ceremony. Their staff has been trained to do this properly.
Will graduates and their guests be permitted to gather outside before and following the ceremonies?
We strongly discourage gathering outside of the arena pre- and post-ceremony. We do not want large groups of people to gather, and we also need to transition the arena and parking lots for the next ceremonies. During the processional, graduates will be directed to exit the arena. Guests should meet graduates outside and leave immediately.
Will COVID-19 testing be required for anyone attending (graduates or guests) May Commencement?
At this time, there are no requirements by the Douglas County Health Department or the UNO Health Security Office to issue COVID-19 testing. We ask that everyone follow adequate physical distancing, face-covering usage, and practice good hygiene. Stay home if the day of the event you or a member of their household is sick.
Do I need to register to walk?
Yes. This is done at the time you apply/applied for your degree via MavLINK. The ordering of your cap and gown will also serve as your RSVP for the ceremony.
Do I need to fill out the GradImages slide registration if I plan to participate in-person?
This is optional to fill out. The slides will be available on the graduation celebration websites for your family and friends to see.

Will I get my diploma at the ceremony?
Will this follow UNO Office of Health Security and Douglas County Health Department guidelines?

How will my family and friends who can’t come to the ceremony be able to watch me graduate?
