Bio
Shannon is from Plattsmouth, NE, and is studying biology. Her non-profit experience includes partnering with Civic Nebraska. As a community action project, her team was tasked with a citizen science component. They created a meteorology-focused program in which students would receive a lesson and practice collecting, recording, and representing weather data. Their weather data will then be submitted to the National Severe Storm Laboratory so they can improve the accuracy of forecasts. Her leadership experience includes participating in several clubs, including the Geoscience Society and Sustain UNO, where she helps with organizing and participating in awareness events. Her research experience includes working with Dr. Ashlee Dere to test restored prairie soils and dust from multiple sites in Glacier Creek. This summer, she will work with HDR as an environmental scientist intern by assisting in wetland delineations and reports, preparing permits, and completing NEPA documentation. Her career interests include environmental science research, education, and consulting.
