Sam is from Omaha, NE, and is studying biomechanics and bioinformatics. His non-profit experience includes partnering with Omaha By Design. As a community action project, his team developed a survey system that allows residents to give qualitative and quantitative feedback. His leadership experience includes being captain of his high school's cross country team, where he led workouts and warmups. His internship experience includes working in the Mobility and Health Lab at UNO. In this role, he used machine learning and motion sensors to predict which types of surfaces a subject was walking on. This summer, he will be with Union Pacific as a frameworks intern. His research experience includes working with Dr. Zuniga in the Biomechanics Lab, where he refabricated a bimanual congenital coordination tray. This device is used on children with upper limb congenital deficiencies to measure their progress with prosthetics. Sam also assisted in developing a 3D model for an early prototype spacer inhaler. This breathing aid prevents air particles from being released while the instrument is in use. His career interests include preventative health and genetics.
