Katie is from Omaha, NE, and is studying biomechanics, pre-med, and business. Her non-profit experience includes partnering with Prairie STEM and JuSTEMagine. As a community action project, her team developed a leadership conference for middle school-aged girls. The aim was to spread awareness about women in STEM, as well as how important leadership is. Her leadership experience includes being a member of a sorority and serving as the Career and Personal Development chair. In this role, she organizes events that allow women to explore their career paths. She also coordinates mental health-related activities, with a focus on teaching students how to deal with the stress of college and career. Her internship experience includes working as an undergraduate researcher at the Biomechanics Research Building at UNO. There, she researches test-retest reliability of neurocognitive hop testing in ankles under the supervision of Dr. Brian Knarr and Dr. Adam Rosen. She also analyzes baseball pitchers, examining how inconsistent throwing form can lead to injury, specifically ulnar collateral ligament tears, also known as a Tommy John injury. This summer, she hopes to find a position to gain clinical experience in preparation for medical school. Her career interest includes being attending medical school to pursue a career as a physician. She is passionate about the human body and rehabilitation and hopes to start her practice that incorporates healthcare on all levels centered around rehab.
