Bio
Justine is from Lincoln, NE, and is studying computer engineering, business, and mathematics. Her non-profit experience includes partnering with Omaha By Design and Metro Smart Cities. As a community impact project, her team took on the challenge of improving pedestrian control and safety at the 67th and Pacific St. intersection. They brainstormed 20+ possible solutions, attended Metro Smart Cities meetings, and present their final ideas to the group. Their ideas consisted of LED strips along the crosswalks for visibility at night, increasing the clearing time for the intersection, and painting the crosswalk for high visibility. Her leadership experience includes being a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for two years. She is also a member of the UNO women's tennis team. Her internship experience includes participating in the Scott Scholars Summer AppJam internship. In this role, she worked with fellow scholars for eight weeks to develop proficiency in mobile application development using Apple's Swift programming language. The team developed a mobile application for the Healing Arts Program at UNMC Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center Institute. In the summer of 2020, she worked at Fiserv as an IT intern, where she worked with two other Scott Scholars to design a project slotting tool for the company. This summer, she will work at Mutual of Omaha as an actuary intern. Her career interests include working as an actuarial scientist in a well-known insurance company, which will utilize computer programming and mathematics to calculate risk.
