Bio
Evie is from Papillion, NE and is studying molecular and biomedical biology and bioinformatics. Her leadership experience includes serving as the director of administration for the Mavericks Club for Bioinformatics since her freshman year. In this role, she updates members and the executive board on upcoming bioinformatics opportunities and projects. She also has experience tutoring student-athletes, which required strong organization and communication skills. Her internship and research experience include participating in the INBRE program. Last summer, she worked in the cancer lab of Dr. Rakesh Singh at UNMC. During this project, she researched pancreatic cancer, more specifically, trying to create a prognostic and diagnostic test for this cancer through chemokine signaling. This year, she is entering her second year in the UNO lab of her faculty mentor, Dr. Paul Davis. Her research focuses on an infectious disease, Schistosoma. She has been studying the mechanistic pathway of a certain compound that removes this parasite from the host. She believes that this compound could potentially serve as a compound of interest for many parasitic diseases. Her career interests include achieving a Ph.D. with a specialization in infectious diseases or immunology. She seeks a career devoted to the worldwide eradication of infectious diseases.
