UNO's core mission is student success and one of the best ways to ensure students are successful is to make sure they feel connected to UNO and supported by their faculty. To do this well means students will more likely be retained and graduate.
As we approach the end of the Sprinf 2019 semester, UNO Academic Affairs wants to ensure that faculty have access to important strategies that will help them build connections with their students and support learning and overall success at UNO:
Tip: Ask students for feedback on your course and how you can help them learn
-
Let students know that you care about and are interested in their feedback:
1) Explain why course evaluations are important and that you reach each and every one.
2) Let students know how you use course evaluations to improve your teaching. -
Take steps to increase response rates on your course evaluations:
1) Offer a point of extra credit to the whole class if a certain threshold for completion of course evaluations is met, e.g. (75 percent).
2) Reserve time in class to do course evaluations and encourage students to bring laptops or phones that day to do them.
3) Put course evaluation completion dates/times on your syllabus. Explain to students how you use thier feedback. -
Use the ACE platform to monitor completion progress in real time from your office.
Reminder: UNO's Prep Week Policy
UNO's policy during Prep Week (April 21 - April 26), which was confirmed by a Faculty Senate Resolution (2780) states that: "The last week of regularly scheduled classes during fall and spring semesters is designated as Prep Week. Except for makeup examinations, tests in self-paced courses, post-tests in the English Composition Program or laboratory exams, no major examination (accounting for more than 20 percent of a student’s grade) may be given during this period. Papers, projects or presentations assigned well in advance (at least two weeks) of Prep Week may be due during this period."
Please note that all classes should meet as regularly scheduled during Prep Week.
Reminder: Final exam schedule available for Spring 2019
-
A list of final exam schedule times is available on the UNO website and will indicate what times students will need to be alotted to take their final exams.
-
Because these times differ from the usual course times, please share this information early on with your students so they can plan accordingly.
