Pet lovers and their furry friends are invited to The Bookworm in Loveland Centre Sunday, Dec. 5, for a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus to benefit Hearts United for Animals.
The event takes place from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. inside the pet-friendly bookstore. The University of Nebraska at Omaha chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) has partnered with The Bookworm for the past 15 years.
Students will take a photo of the pet on Santa's lap, print the photo on site and turn it into a holiday card for a fee of $25. All photos will also be emailed to pet owners. Pet owners who bring a donation item receive a $5 discount.
All proceeds go directly to Hearts United for Animals, a national no-kill shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization. The nonprofit's major focus is to end the overpopulation of domestic animals and the suffering of puppy mill dogs. Hearts United receives no government funding and exists solely on donations and the all-volunteer staff.
The event also includes a donation drive for Hearts United for Animals. Among the most needed items are Gerber baby meat sticks, hard chew toys, (no rawhide or Greenies) soft treats, blankets, towels, adjustable collars, leashes, laundry soap, bleach, paper towels and trash bags. Drop-off bins are located at UNO's Arts and Sciences Hall, Room 105 and at The Bookworm.
