Common Reader Experience Discussion Groups
All first year students are invited to check in and join discussion groups on campus for our Common Reader Experience. Come and explore Willa Cather’s My Antonia before New Student Convocation and meet faculty, staff, and fellow students before classes start.

Officially welcome new students to campus. Shuttles to/from Baxter Arena will be available from 3 P.M.– 6 P.M. with pick-up locations near Arts and Sciences Hall (ASH), Library, and Scott Crossing.

Chocolate and Bling in the CEC

Have a dip in a chocolate fountain and learn about the CEC and its building partners, the Service Learning Academy, and the Office of Civic and Social Responsibility. Grab some bling and go on a scavenger hunt to qualify for an iPad or four $25 MavMONEY prizes!

UNO Bookstore's Golden Ticket Event

Stop by the UNO Bookstore between August 20 – 31 for a chance to find a Golden Ticket! Each weekday the UNO Bookstore will be hiding 3 golden tickets inside of the store for a chance to win 40% off one item! Tickets are redeemable by students only (faculty and staff may not participate) and excludes books, computer hardware and regalia.

UNO Spirit Day

Join the Office of Spirit and Tradition for Spirit Day! This pep-rally/tailgate event provides you with a sneak peek into the UNO game-day experience, a chance to compete against Division I Athletes for prizes, FREE food, New Orleans authentic snowballs, and MavSWAG. Grab a sports poster, interact with the players & coaches, take pictures with Durango, Cheer Team, and Dance Team, play yard games, and show most importantly show your #MavSpirit!

The St. John Paul II Newman Center welcomes the whole UNO community to our home for an evening of great food, beverages, music, and yard games.
Late Night Target Shopping

Target is throwing a college shopping event just for you. Shop for last minute essentials and finishing touches for your housing. UNO and UNMC students are invited to attend. Bring your MavCARD for access. Free snacks, food, music, giveaways, and more. Free bus shuttles from Maverick Village and Scott Crossing will run from 9:30 P.M. to 12:30 A.M. continuously.

Interact with Omaha businesses, non-profits, restaurants, UNO departments, student services, and community partners. Features great giveaways, food, and swag.
11 A.M.– 1 P.M. | H&K Building Plaza
Come by and learn more from representatives about all the sustainable transportation options available on campus, including Omaha Metro Transit, Heartland B-Cycle, Carpooling, Campus Shuttles, and the Emergency Ride Home Program. MAPA and ModeShift Omaha will also be on hand presenting information about the benefits of active transportation. Come by and register a bicycle and receive a 20% off coupon to UNO’s Bookstore that you can use to purchase a U-Lock.
4 P.M.–6 P.M. | Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom
Free food and fun. Hosted by the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, LGBTQIA+ Task Force, and Queer and Trans Services student agency. This event encourages any lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans spectrum, queer spectrum, intersex, and/or asexual spectrum and ally persons in the UNO community (student, faculty, staff) to join in the fun.

Maverick Day of Service
8:30 A.M. (check-in) - 2 P.M. (check-out) | Community Engagement Center
Maverick Day of Service is an opportunity for the UNO community (students, staff, and faculty) to join hands and complete service projects in support of the Omaha metropolitan community. Service projects will help the community at large, and those who participate can choose from a variety of service projects during check-in. Please make sure to dress to get dirty and make a difference. We will have free breakfast and lunch available to all volunteers. Check out our Facebook page for an updated list of our nonprofit partners. Not available the whole day? Stop in the Office of Civic & Social Responsibility (OCSR) anytime during the day to complete a service project in the office.
