There's no question that part of celebrating your academic achievements is sharing the experience with friends and family.
Through video conferencing software like Zoom, you can invite dozens of friends and family to join you as you tune in to our virtual commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 18, at 6 P.M.
Below are five simple steps on how to set up your own December 2020 Commencement Zoom Watch Party.
Don't forget to tag us (@UNOmaha and #MavSpirit) in all of your commencement-related social media posts. We'll be sharing some of our favorites on UNO's official Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Step 1
Access Zoom
Make sure you and anyone you want to invite has access to the Zoom video conferencing software. Zoom can be used on Windows, Mac and Linux computers as well as Apple and Android phones.
TIP: UNO students, faculty and staff already have access to Zoom through their UNO NetID, and UNO themed Zoom backgrounds are available.
Step 2
Schedule Your Party
From the Zoom application on your computer or app on your phone, click the "Schedule" button and fill in the appropriate information.
TIP: Make sure you give yourself time before and after the Commencement ceremony by setting the meeting to start at 5:30 p.m. CST and end after 8 p.m. CST.
Step 3
Invite People to Your Party
Once the meeting information is completed and submitted, you should be prompted to invite attendees. You can use everything from email to SMS texting to directly invite guests, or just copy the Zoom link to share through social media.
TIP: Invited guests don't need to have access to Zoom to participate by phone; however, they will not be able to share your video screen to watch the commencement ceremony.
Step 4
Host Your Watch Party: Sharing Your Screen
Once people start arriving, access UNO's Commencement Schedule page and find your college's ceremony.
Once open, use the "Share Your Screen" function in Zoom to trigger a pop-up that will have you select which screen you want to share. Be sure to tap on the window that has the Commencement stream on it and don't forget to use our Zoom backgrounds to share your Maverick Spirit!
TIP: You can keep track of your guests with the "Participants" button and chat with one or more people through the "Chat" button - even while sharing your screen.
Step 5
Celebrate!
You've accomplished something truly remarkable by earning your degree and have moved on from being a UNO student to being a member of the Maverick alumni family. Take the time to enjoy your successes; laugh with your friends and family; grab some snacks; and don't forget to watch for you name to be read on screen. Congratulations!
Once a Maverick, always a Maverick!
