Although, at this time, we are not able to celebrate our May 2020 commencement ceremony in person, we want to give graduating students the opportunity to celebrate all that they have accomplished during their time at UNO. As such, we are planning an online celebration for the graduates so that they can remotely share this moment with their family, friends, and the academic community.
Each graduate will have the opportunity to be recognized with an official slide that can be customized with their photo and a personal message, and then be downloaded and shared on social media.
May 2020 or August 2020 graduates should have received an email from UNO Events and MarchingOrders to their UNO email address. This email will walk them though how to register on MarchingOrder and create a password. This account is where they will submit their photo, personal message, and the phonetic spelling of their name. We will use this information to create each graduate's personal commencement slide.
All graduates must do this to be included in the commencement ceremony.
The deadline for submitting the items above is April 17 by 9:00 A.M.
We do not require a professional headshot. We have the following recommendations for taking a headshot at home:
Have someone else take the photo – no selfies.
Find an area with a background you like and stand a few feet away so there is some space between you and the background.
Find an area with window light and face the light.
Shoot tight – just head, shoulders and elbows in the photo without much space around you.
Have the photographer shoot straight-on – no high, low, or side angles.
Stand so your toes are pointed 45 degrees away from the camera and turn your torso to look back at the camera.
Stand up straight and smile!
Take several photos until you have one you like and send it our way!
