Jonathan Adelman is a professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. He received his Ph.D from Columbia University in 1976. Dr. Adelman has written 12 books on Russia, China, and the Middle East and specializes in security studies, foreign policy and revolutions. Notably, he has worked extensively with several government agencies in Washington and for the Science Application International Corporation as a senior scientist doing work on the Soviet military for the Defense Department. He is also a popular speaker on the Middle East, especially Israel and his latest book is The Rise of Israel: A History of a Revolutionary State.
This event is part of the annual Ruth and Phil Sokolof Lecture in Israel and Jewish Studies, the fruit of a generous donation by the Sokolof-Javitch family. Speakers in this series have included former Ambassadors Martin Indyk and Stuart Eizenstat, renowned authors Dan Senor, Daniel Gordis, and Ari Shavit.
