General Safety Tips:
In all activities, use common sense and be conscious of your surroundings. Don't ignore hazardous situations.
Explore campus maps to become familiar with the UNO campus and neighboring areas.
Always keep your vehicle locked and the windows up, when the car is parked and when you are driving. Have your key in hand when approaching your car.
Add UNO Public Safety to your phone’s contact list 402.554.2911. You can use this number to report emergencies any time, 24 hours a day.
Use the buddy system and look out for your neighbor. Avoid traveling alone at night around campus or nearby locations.
Keep your personal data safe by installing anti-virus and anti-malware programs and avoid clicking on any links in emails from people you don’t know. Helpful tips can be found at www.stopthinkconnect.org.

How to Report an Emergency:
Emergencies requiring police, fire or medical aid should be reported by calling Public Safety at 402.554.2911.
Blue Phones are located throughout campus and may be activated by simply pushing a button. This will connect you with a Public Safety dispatcher who will provide assistance.
When to Call
Crimes in progress and crimes which have just occurred should be reported immediately by dialing 402.554.2911 or 911.
Whenever possible, please have the actual victim or witness of the crime call directly. First-hand information is always more accurate and complete.
What to Say When You Call
- The dispatcher will ask a series of questions and have officers respond to the appropriate area. Listen carefully to each question and try to answer it as best as you can. Do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you to do so.
How to Report a Non-Emergency
Non-emergency calls may be reported by calling Public Safety’s main desk at 402.554.2648.
Use U-Tip, an anonymous tip service, to report suspicious activity or concern by texting your emergency message, preceded by “UNO911” to 50911.
Threatening behavior should be reported to UNO Public Safety as soon as possible.
How to Report a Cybercrime
- If you believe you are the victim of a phishing attack or other cybercrime, contact UNO Information Technology Services, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Public Safety.
