Chris Moore, Ph.D., has been named as the next director of the UNO STEM TRAIL Center. The announcement was made by the Lee D. and Willa Seemann Distinguished Dean of the College of Information Science & Technology, Martha Garcia-Murillo, Ph.D.

“Dr. Moore’s passion for and commitment to educational innovation in the STEM fields is clear,” Garcia-Murillo said. “His deep experience engaging with the Omaha STEM community and bold vision for growing and supporting partnerships will drive forward the center’s focus on STEM workforce development across Nebraska.”

Moore also serves as the George F. Haddix Community Chair of Physical Science, chair of the Department of = department. He previously served as assistant director of the STEM TRAIL Center. His current research focuses on physical science education and change processes in educational institutions. He is also the author of four books on STEM education, including market leading high school curricula in physics and chemistry.

“The STEM TRAIL Center exists to elevate human potential through lifelong learning,” Moore said. “It’s not the ideas in STEM that change the world, but how people use and interact with those ideas. I’m excited to continue our work, which is making an impact on real people’s lives.”

Moore will fill the role previously held by Christine Cutucache, Ph.D., who had served as director since the center’s founding in 2019.

“I’m thrilled Dr. Moore will be at the helm,” Cutucache said. “He was one of the founders of the center and has the passion, vision, and organizational excellence to drive the center into the future.”

Moore holds a Bachelor of Science in physics, a master's degree in applied physics, and a doctorate in chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University.

NOTE: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that Chris Moore "previously" served in his roles as George F. Haddix Community Chair of Physical Science and chair of the Department of Physics. He will continue on in these roles in addition to his new role as STEM TRAIL Center director.
