The first week of the Fall 2021 semester is in the books, but the excitement and engagement opportunities around Durango Days roll on.
Festivities kicked off Sunday, Aug. 22, with MavFEST and UNO Convocation at Tal Andersen Field in Maverick Park. More than 1,000 students attended UNO’s student welcome – a record for the event. The first week of Durango Days featured music, live mixing from Power 106.9, a student job fair, the "Cup with Jo" with UNO Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, and more.
For the first time ever, Durango Days will continue for a second week! Students can take part in more activities Aug. 30-Sept. 4 during events that include a petting zoo, a Student Town Hall with Chancellor Li, and a drive-in movie double feature.
Durango Days Highlights: Week One
🤘 MavFEST and Convocation
At MavFEST, students were entertained by a DJ and hung out with student organizations, UNO departments, and community sponsors ahead of Convocation. Convocation served as an opening ceremony of sorts for the Fall 2021 semester. Mavericks celebrated with Chancellor Li, were inspired by keynote speaker and UNO alum Lamarr Womble, and enjoyed a fireworks display.
🎵 Power 106.9 with Alyssa and Mr. West
Mavericks joined Alyssa and Mr. West from Power 106.9 for two afternoons of live mixing, giveaways, and meet and greets in the Pep Bowl. Students had a chance to win prizes including t-shirts, haunted house passes, gift certificates to local coffee shops and restaurants, a UNO Bookstore Swag Basket, and more.
🐪 Hump Day with Maverick Productions
Hosted by Maverick Productions, Mavericks celebarted Hump Day by petting a camel and other animals from Scatter Joy Acres. T-shirts and other goodies were available on a first come first serve basis.
👋 Student Involvement Fair
The annual Student Involvement Fair helped connect students with campus organizations, clubs, volunteer opportunities, and more on campus.
☕ Cup With Jo: Meet Chancellor Joanne Li
Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, invited all students, faculty, and staff to come enjoy a free beverage, good music, and participate in a lively conversation. Dr. Li is in her first year as UNO's Chancellor.
