Interim University of Nebraska President Susan Fritz, Ph.D., has announced a day of administrative leave for Tuesday, Dec. 24, following a pronouncement by President Donald Trump closing federal offices on Tuesday. This decision is in addition to the federal holiday already scheduled on Wednesday, Dec. 25.
The University of Nebraska Human Resources Handbook for Policies states that, "Regular employees may be granted administrative leave with pay in the event of non-scheduled 'declared' holidays authorized by the U.S. president, governor, or president of the university."
Hourly (bi-weekly) employees:
All benefits-eligible employees (hourly) will need to submit for their time that day as administrative leave via Firefly. As a reminder, the final day for hour employees to submit leave ahead of the Holiday Closedown is Thursday, Dec. 19.
Salary employees:
Salary employees who have already completed a Leave Request with a full day of vacation time, comp time, or floating holiday time for Dec. 24, 2018, should delete their Leave Request through Firefly, which will then be credited back to them following their supervisor's approval.
No further action is needed.
Note: Please remember to always monitor and manage your leave balances in accordance with the maximum number of hours allowed.
Things to remember:
Individuals who are on FMLA during the closedown break will have a day of administrative leave recorded on Dec. 24, 2019.
Designated essential personnel should continue to report, and will be compensated as established by campus payroll policies and procedures.
