Sustainability, in all of its forms, is deeply connected to the UNO mission. Our efforts in this area have even earned significant recognition in recent years, with national recognitions just in the past year from the Arbor Day Foundation, Association for the Advancement of Sustainability, Sierra Club and Princeton Review. However, these efforts are part of a continual process as we seek to make critical advancements in reducing our environmental footprint.
In October, it was announced that the University of Nebraska had entered into a new five-year agreement with leading energy conservation firm Cenergistic. In November, we shared that the first phase of this effort was underway with Cenergistic employees conducting data collection throughout campus to monitor important environmental factors like temperature, humidity and light levels. Many of you may have also worked directly with Cenergistic, providing feedback and insight into how you interact with campus facilities and areas where we might be able to find energy reductions.
In the coming days and weeks, Cenergistic will begin a limited implementation of their recommendations in a select number of buildings. More specific information about what these recommendations are and which buildings are being selected will be shared with building managers and impacted units in the coming days.
We all have roles to play in order to help ensure the greatest gains and impact for UNO. If you have questions or feedback about this effort, please feel free to email email@example.com. Also, be sure to visit the UNO Sustainability website for more information about the wide array of sustainability efforts and accomplishments you have made a reality.
I thank you for your continued commitment and efforts towards making our campus the best that it can be.
Jeffrey Gold, M.D.
