UNO Flag Lowering for Charlie Hein
The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flag in the Pep Bowl will be lowered Wednesday, July 6, 2016, for Charlie Hein, a former employee who died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on June 10, 2016. Charlie was 83 years old at the time of his passing.
Charlie worked as an editor, writer, and reporter before entering into higher education. He worked at UNO from 1978 to 1980 as the Director of University Relations and Executive Assistant to the Chancellor. In 1978, Charlie was recognized with the Chancellor’s Medal for his extraordinary service to UNO.
No matter where he lived, Charlie believed in serving the community. During his time in Omaha, Charlie was the Vice Chairman of the Omaha/Douglas County Bicentennial Commission and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Omaha Public Library.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Hein. Charlie and Peggy’s ashes will be spread together along the Loup River, one of their favorite places on earth.
The UNO community extends our thoughts and condolences to Charlie’s loved ones.
