OMAHA – The creators of a new documentary say poverty in Omaha can be hard to spot; however, that unseen or overlooked poverty remains a serious problem.
“Out of Frame: Unseen Poverty in the Heartland” will be shown at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) on Wednesday, March 2 at 6 p.m. in the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (Rooms 201/205/209), with introductions beginning at 5:30 p.m. The screening is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the lot directly north of the bell tower.
Together Omaha and Surreal Media Lab produced the film, which aims to show how to recognize a range of poverty related issues that American families face and how to make a real impact.
UNO’s Community Engagement Center houses several organizations involved in the documentary and the issues it explores, including Hunger-Free Heartland and the Metro Area Continuum of Care for the Homeless (MACCH).
In addition, UNO’s Service Learning Academy, Project Achieve and Thompson Learning Community have worked closely with Together Omaha and other community organizations on poverty related issues.
“Out of Frame” premiered in Nov. 2015, and is now available for online streaming or download. Learn more at http://www.outofframedocumentary.com/.
The March 2 screening is hosted by UNO’s Community Engagement Center, University Honors Program, Service Learning Academy, Project Achieve, Thompson Learning Center, Air Force ROTC and Office of Graduate Studies.
