A Letter from the Chancellor:
Dear UNO Community,
February is American Heart Month, a time for all of us to reflect on the importance of taking care of our hearts. The Heart Walk, which will take place on May 7, 2016 at Miller’s Landing in downtown Omaha, will be the end celebration.
Heart disease is the nation's No. 1 cause of death, followed closely by stroke at No. 5. These diseases truly impact our families, friends, and the communities that we serve. Together, we can help the American Heart Association impact lives for the better so we can all experience more of life’s precious moments with our loved ones.
Our 2016 commitment includes bringing together the UNO community, their family, and their friends to raise funds for the fight against heart disease and stroke. The impact we can make through our involvement can save lives. Join us as we take steps in helping to improve the overall culture of health in and around the community.
Lauren Adams, from the Wellness Center, is acting as the lead contact. She is recruiting individuals from different areas across campus to be departmental representatives. These departmental representatives are responsible for recruiting individuals to join their Heart Walk team and for raising funds to support the important mission of the American Heart Association, which is to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
I encourage you, your family, and your friends to get involved in our Heart Walk efforts and to use the Heart Walk as an opportunity to have fun, socialize with co-workers, be active, and raise donations to support the work of the American Heart Association.
Please contact Lauren Adams at 402.554.4480 or ladams@unomaha.edu if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
John E. Christensen
Chancellor
