As a result of an Executive Order, signed by President Obama December 11, 2015, Governor Ricketts has announced that Nebraska state government agencies will observe a half-day paid holiday and will be closed to the public starting at noon Thursday, December 24, 2015.
State law provides that whenever the President gives federal employees paid time off, the State of Nebraska shall grant the same benefit to state employees.
To comply with the Executive Order, eligible UNO employees will observe a half-day of administrative leave on December 24, 2015.
Please review the following information about how this change impacts benefit eligible hourly and salary employees.
Hourly (bi-weekly) employees:
Hourly employees do not have to take any action. The half-day of administrative leave will be managed by UNO’s Payroll Office.
The administrative leave will equal half of the employee’s scheduled work hours. If the employee works an eight-hour shift, then four hours of administrative leave will be recorded. If the employee works six hours, then three hours will be recorded, etc.
Half of the benefit hours recorded for December 24, 2015, will be credited back to his/her leave balance account to use at a later late.
Salary employees will need to log in to Firefly to submit a Leave Request.
Salary employees who have already completed a Leave Request with a full day of vacation time, comp time, or floating holiday time for December 24, 2015, should:
- Delete their Leave Request for December 24, 2015. Note: Their supervisor must approve the deletion before a new request is submitted
- Submit a new request. The new request should only include a half-day of the following: vacation time, comp time, or floating holiday time.
Salary employees may complete this request at any time, but it’s best to do so by the end of January.
Things to remember:
- Individuals who are on FMLA during the closedown break will also have a half-day of administrative leave recorded on December 24, 2015.
If you have questions or are concerned about what to do for the holiday closedown period, please speak with your business manager.
