OMAHA – In observance of Veterans Day, University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) students, faculty and staff will honor and celebrate the service of all U.S. military veterans.
A series of events and engagement opportunities are planned for the holiday and the days leading up to it.
On Veterans Day - Wednesday, Nov. 11 - members of the UNO community are invited to take part in the Veterans Day of Service by performing service activities benefiting veterans. Projects include making fleece blankets for homeless veterans and writing thank-you cards to our veterans.
Service opportunities will be available from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center.
The same evening, scholarships will be awarded at a Veterans Appreciation Dinner. The formal meal and scholarship presentation is free for veteran students and their guests. Guests of honor include Congressman Brad Ashford, Nebraska VA Director Jon Hilgert, and UNO Chancellor John Christensen.

UNO’s Air Force ROTC detachment will begin observation of Veterans Day a few days early.
On Saturday, Nov. 7, UNO’s Air Force ROTC detachment and staff from UNO’s Division of Continuing Studies Office at Offutt will march in Nebraska’s 16th Annual Official Veterans Parade in Bellevue.
On Sunday, Nov. 8, UNO AFROTC, Angel Flight and Silver Wings Alumni come together for an annual Veterans Day brunch, raising money for the UNO Alumni AFROTC Scholarship Fund.
On Nov. 11-13, UNO students, faculty, and staff who are military veterans, active duty military, or ROTC will receive 20 percent off Maverick apparel in the Bookstore.
UNO is currently the nation’s top four-year institution for veterans according to the 2015 “Best for Vets” rankings released by the Military Times. UNO's Office of Military and Veteran Services focuses on students' academic achievement, career attainment, financial health, and overall physical and mental wellness.
