Each week we'll share a University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) photo on our homepage as part of the popular "Throwback Thursday" series.
Check back for a celebration of UNO's history, and to learn more about what's happening on campus and in our community, and future plans for the university.
Visit the UNO Criss Library Flickr photostream for even more photos.
Each summer, kids from across the Omaha metro area come to UNO for various summer camp opportunities.
The Mav Kids Summer Camp offers a variety of youth targeted programing open to children of UNO students, faculty and staff, alumni and the general public. Now in its 20th year, the goal of Mav Kids is to provide a safe and fun environment where children can learn, build relationship skills, and become active.
In June 2013, Mav Kids students were treated to a unique experience that brought science to life.
A hot air balloon was brought into the Pep Bowl where the students gathered to watch it be put together.
The balloon was then set upright by releasing the propane gas, tethered to the ground, and students were given the chance to press the lever to ignite the hot air balloon burners. This shot the flame up into the balloon.
