Entrance into CHEM 1180 General Chemistry I depends on a student’s ACT Math Sub-Score or their score on the Math Placement Exam. CHEM 1180 placement is determined by the following criteria:
An ACT Math Sub-Score Placement of 25+
|Math Placement Exam Score||Placement|
|6||Math 1220, 1320, 1330, 1340, 1370, 1530, or 1930|
|7||Math 1220, 1320, 1330, 1340, 1370, 1530, 1930, or 1950|
Note: A student may challenge their ACT Math Sub-Score placement by taking the Math Placement Exam. The exam must be taken before the opening of enrollment for the term in which CHEM 1180 is to be taken. Math placement scores with in the last two years are acceptable for placement into CHEM 1180.
Math Placement Exam score (above) or completion of Math 1320 or 1340 or 1360 (with a C- or greater)
OR Completion of CHEM 1120 (with a B- or greater)
OR Completion of CHEM 1140 (with a C- or greater)
General Placement Exam Guidelines
Students are to register for placement exams through MavLINK. (the University Student Information System.)
Please bring to the test: Photo ID, #2 pencils, and a ballpoint pen.
- Transfer students, former UNO students, and students qualifying for Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment credit may already have satisfied their testing requirements and should consult with an advisor in their UNO college if uncertain about the need to test.
The Testing Center cancels exams due to inclement weather or other emergencies only if the University officially closes. Announcements are made via local media, UNO’s emergency site and at 402.554.2255.
Students are expected to abide by UNO’s policy on Academic Integrity. Failure to do so may result in one or more of the following but not limited to: cancellation of test results; being declared ineligible for admission to UNO; and/or expulsion of current students from the institution.
Only examinees are allowed in testing rooms.
Food and drink are NOT ALLOWED.

Math Placement Exam test results will be available for registration approximately 24-48 hours after testing and on your Unofficial Transcript through MavLINK .
Placement test results will be e-mailed to each student. The Privacy Act prohibits the releasing of test results by phone; please DO NOT phone for your results. Results are valid for 2 years. Contact the Chemistry Department at 402.554.2651 for additional information.
