Courtney has been with STEPs as a Graduate Research Assistant/Graduate Assistant from August 2021 and works with the following community partners or programs: Drug Overdose Prevention (DOP): Drug Use Behaviors and First Responders.
Education
Courtney graduated from Nebraska Methodist College in 2019 with a Bachelor’s of Health Studies with a concentration in Coaching, Nursing, and Physical Therapy. During her time at Nebraska Methodist College, she pursued her passion for the homeless and impoverished populations and worked with local shelters and community resources to help these populations. She decided to pursue a Master’s in Social Work at the University of Nebraska Omaha. While here, she hopes to understand the policies and produces of nonprofits in a community through collaboration.
Professional Background
Courtney has worked with Nebraska Methodist Health System as a certified nursing assistant in oncology and as an outpatient physical and occupational therapy secretary/technician. She has seen both the effects and changes that the inpatient and outpatient social work has had for patients and how much they help healthcare as well. She looks forward to learning about the Omaha and Nebraska laws that affect healthcare and working with Nebraska nonprofits to help these populations.
Professional Interests
Courtney wants to start a non-profit to help serve the homeless populations to help decrease homelessness and start a path to recovery with intervention and individual care for each person. She is looking to go straight into the mental health field and help with the rehabilitation process for her population focus.
Something Personal
Courtney loves her two cats and the rescue SOLAS that she adopted them from, and helps as a volunteer coordinator in her free time. She looks forward to traveling and going to concerts in her free time as well.
