In light of the University close down due to COVID-19, the Practicum Office has adjusted their policies and procedures to accommodate students in practicum. Please refer to COVID-19 Protocol and Corona Virus Optional Activities for the most updated information.
The practicum courses, taken sequentially, are expected to facilitate learning experiences which are appropriate to the student's educational level and needs, and supportive of classroom learning.
The Generalist Practicum (BSSW and MSW Foundation) emphasizes the knowledge and processes basic to all social work interventions, introduces the student to various models designed to effect change in social systems and specific social problems, and provides an opportunity for integration of research, knowledge and skills.
The Advanced Practicum provides students with a mix of direct clinical services with individuals, families and small groups and indirect services including supervision, administrative activities, research, advocacy and community organizing. The student, in collaboration with their supervisor, will develop a learning contract that will dictate the focus of learning experiences in the practicum setting.
