Renter populations in select cities have increased in comparison to their respective owner-occupied housing populations.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, more than 172,000 Omaha residents rent, while about 279,00 live in owner-occupied housing. Just over one-half of the city’s renters reside in multi-unit structures, while the rest live in single-family homes.
In contrast, Lincoln, Nebraska, has an estimated total renter population of about 102,000 while nearly 162,000 residents live in owner-occupied housing. The renter share of total population in Lincoln is 38.8%.
